La Pietriccia- The Ultimate Italian Agriturismo

DESCRIZIONE

I had always dreamed of going to Italy: the art, the people, the food! I spent my first weeks traveling around feeling like Goldilocks.  Milan, the Cities of Cinque Terre, Florence; all of them breathtaking but none of them felt quite right.  It wasn't until I came across a little agriturismo on the outskirts of the Tuscan village of Chianciano Terme, I could finally say "This is just right!"

La Pietriccia is everything I wanted from my Italian experience and so much more.  It was as if being welcomed into an Italian home, complete with gourmet meals, flowing wine and engaging conversation.  Stefano, the chef and owner, is loud, welcoming, talented, and hilarious. Listening to him speak about food is not only a valuable lesson but some form of entertainment. His passion for food can inspire even the worst of cooks to embrace the kitchen.  As he toured us around his vineyards and farm, he taught us the importance of sustainable farming and the harm in pairing chemicals and food.

Days were filled with laying by the pool to a Tuscan back drop, exploring the beautiful town up the hill, and enjoying the company of the our new Italian famiglia.  We learned how olive oil was produced and the correct way to taste it, how meats were cured and wine was made.  One evening we were treated to a cooking class where we were taught to make pesto, sausage, gnocchi, and tagliatelle (mine came out the best, of course!).

At night we all gathered around the table, experiencing the most incredible 4-coursed meals each made with the best ingredients and creativity. As we passed the night away, drinking home-made limoncello, sitting under the stars, we listed to another guest sing "Volare" with his daughter dancing at his feet.  With full bellies and light hearts we would end our night with a walk through the vineyard with billions of fireflies lighting our way.

So, if you want to get away to, what I would equate to as the warmest Italian hug, I would suggest checking out La Pietriccia.
